December Necklace of the month

December's necklace of the month is the.......... RIBBON BOW NECKLACE!

Level:

Supplies:
  • 3/4 in. ribbon
  • glue gun
  • necklace chain

Form 5 inches of ribbon into an oval and secure with hot glue.
Glue the ribbon to look like a bow.

Take a shorter length of ribbon and glue it in the back around the first to connect it to the chain and create the bow.

    DIY Salt Dough Ornaments

This is kind of last minute, but here is a tutorial for cute salt dough/ clay ornaments.
    Level:

    Supplies:
    • salt dough recipe & ingredients
    • ribbon to hang ornament
    • plastic straw (to poke a hole)
    • plastic or metal cookie cutter
    • watercolors + brush

        1. Make the salt dough using the recipe.
        2. Shape some salt dough using a cookie cutter, making sure it's somewhat flat.
        3. Using a straw, poke a hole at the top of the ornament.
        4. After the ornament(s) has air dried for a day or two- I know, a long time... paint them with watercolors.
        5. When the watercolors dry, string a ribbon through the hole you made with the straw and tie it off.
All done- it may be a little squishy though... :D

        Merry Christmas!!!

            Friendship Bracelet: Gift idea

Gift giving is a major part of the holidays. Every week starting now, I will post some ideas/ tutorials for homemade gifts. Today, I will show you how to make a friendship bracelet. This is a simple, easy craft that kids can make too.

            Level:
            Supplies:
            • embroidery thread/floss
            • clipboard
            Here are directions from www.michaels.com

            1. Select 4 colors of floss 25" long. Tie a knot around 1½" from the top and tape to table.
            2. Separate floss by color and imagine the floss as A,B,C and D.
            3. Hold string B straight and knot string A around it.
            4. Pull string A toward the left and tighten it.
            5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to get a double knot.
            6. Make double knots with string A around each of the remaining strings (C and D).
            7. Now you are in the second row, tie a double knot with string B around C, D and A individually.
            8. Keep repeating this pattern until bracelet reaches desired length.
            9. Tie knot to secure all strings and trim both ends to about 1¼" long.
